On September 30, a business day was held at the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence of Moscow State University - the launch of the second stream of the Design Laboratory of the Intellect Foundation.
Today, the Design Laboratory is a space where science and business speak the same language: large companies interested in improving production and business processes using AI offer cases to MSU students and graduate students, the guys choose the most interesting tasks, and then, joining teams, work on a solution for two months.
According to the results of the competitive selection, 76 participants entered the program: along with students and postgraduates from Moscow State University, students from MIPT, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, MEPhI, NES, NSU and ITMO University joined the Design Laboratory. Each team is assigned a mentor from the customer company, who accompanies the development and provides regular expert support.
During the last business day, the industrial partners presented 19 application cases. All the cases have already been distributed among the teams and are actively working: this time the guys are creating AI solutions in the field of robotics, investment, construction and development, transport, procurement and personnel management.

Among the key results of the first launch is the AI service MaterialsGen, which allows predicting the properties of concrete based on its composition and forming optimal formulations of concrete mixtures for specified technical characteristics.
"Cooperation with the Foundation for Business and Industry is, first of all, access to the knowledge and competencies of students and postgraduates who like and know how to work with non–standard tasks, quickly master new subject areas and apply modern methods of scientific research. The teams bring together guys with fundamental training, industry expertise, and engineering experience. This allows you to work deeper into tasks, taking into account all the constraints, and create solutions that bring measurable results to the business. At the same time, the Design Laboratory is a feedback loop for science itself: when faced with real industry challenges, researchers see the limitations of existing methods and find new directions for academic research," says Maria Mozhayskaya, CEO of the Intellect Foundation.
Over the next two months, the teams will complete a series of hypothesis testing sprints, as well as data manipulation and model training. The final project defense and demonstration of ready-made AI solutions will take place in December, after which companies will consider the possibility of integrating the developed algorithms into their production and business processes.
