Inside the Intellect Foundation`s Summer school: Where AI meets the future of science

30.07.2026

From July 20 to 27, the Intellect Foundation's Summer School on AI was held, an educational program for students, postgraduates and young researchers focused on the practical application of AI and machine learning technologies. 37 students, postgraduates, and young researchers from Moscow State University, MIPT, and other leading Russian universities participated in the school. During the week, they got acquainted with current trends in the development of artificial intelligence, listened to lectures by leading experts, discussed research approaches and worked on applied tasks from industrial partners.

One of the key objectives of the Summer School is to show how modern AI tools can be used to solve real–world research and production tasks, so a significant part of the program was devoted to teamwork on case studies. The participants analyzed the tasks set by the business, selected approaches to their solution, developed project concepts and prepared them for final defense before experts.

This year, the teams worked on several application areas: quality control of filling out medical documentation, optimization of launching marketing campaigns, digitization of analog switch devices using computer vision, as well as the development of the AI tool "Geologist's Assistant".

"It is important for us that the Summer School is not only an educational program, but also an environment where young researchers can develop their skills solving business problems, receive feedback from experts and share experiences with each other. This year, the participants worked with cases from various fields, from medicine and geology to marketing and computer vision. This format helps to develop not only professional skills, but also the ability to work in a team, formulate hypotheses and bring ideas to a clear result. We are pleased to see the commitment with which the participants approached the work, and we hope that the experience of the Summer School will be an important step for them in their further research and professional trajectory," says Maria Mozhayskaya, CEO of the Intellect Foundation. The final stage of the Summer School was the final project presentations. The teams presented the developed solutions, received feedback from experts and discussed possible trajectories for the further development of their ideas. As a result, 4 teams that presented the best developments received valuable prizes.

The Intellect Foundation's Summer School on AI combined educational, research, and practice-oriented formats, but its main result was not developed solutions, but the people, ideas, and professional connections that emerged this week. We hope that the experience gained will become a source of inspiration for the participants and an important support for further development in the research and professional field.

The summer school is organized with the support of the Oleg Deripaska Foundation "Volnoe Delo".
